Annual family camping week. It’s 95 degrees in Seattle, and 60 degrees here. Overcast and misting a little. There’s a burn ban so cooking will be a little more challenging. I baked a crisp for desert and salmon for dinner in the oven. That worked pretty well. It would be better over a fire. I bakes potatoes in the Instapot. I should let them cook a bit longer next time.

Took the boys and grandkids to the beach. Teagan and Lorena put wetsuits on and tried to ride waves on the body boards. Not a lot of waves. Teagan switched to the skimming board and looked to be having a lot of fun. Leon did pretty well on it too, but we didn’t have a wetsuit small enough for him and he got cold pretty fast. Bakes chicken skewers in the oven. That was ok. Should have marinated them first, and of course would have been a lot better on a fire.

Went into town for fish and chips and Bennett’s. Interrupted due to trouble at work. Ended up logging in from my iPad to solve the problem.

Shelly arrived today with her new camper. Second outing in the camper for her. Sounds like she is gaining confidence in towing. I am a little jealous of the room she has in it. I still don’t want to tow.

Matt and family left today. It’s a lot quieter now. The grandkids are a lot of fun and I enjoy the cacophony of noise and activity that surround them. I smoked a brisket last week and froze it. Warmed it up in the oven for a couple hours for dinner. Turned out great. KC suggested bringing an electric chicken roaster next time there is a fire ban. That’s a great idea that I’m totally going to steal. Took Teagan down to the beach for more playing in the waves. He’s gotten pretty good at the skim board. The wetsuit really extends his play time. I’ll have to keep an eye out for a replacement as he continues to grow.

Everyone is planning to drive to Raymond for fish and chips at some shack down there. Sounds like a terrific idea. With luck it will be cheaper than Bennets. I like their halibut fish and chips, but they are real expensive. (Later) it wasn’t quite as expensive. The breading is cornmeal based. Pretty good. The personality of the lady running the place sells it though.

Went out to the beach again. Lorena and Teagan we out in the water for a long time with the body boards.

Stopped at Merinos Seafood Market on the way out of town. The boys have been asking to try crab legs for some time. I was rather fished out and fried out. The boys seemed to enjoy the experience. Perhaps not their favorite seafood, but its up on the list. Traffic was dead stopped from Tumwater to Fort Lewis.
