107 miles. 1 mile south of De Roux campground by the river
A quick overnight up the Tianaway Creek. It’s a bit busy with 4th of July in a couple days. People taking advantage of a long weekend I suppose. The horse camp at the end of the road was full and we didn’t want to deal with the community campground, too many obnoxious people. We found a place to get off the road away from where everyone else.
The truck had an old CB radio that I was never able to get working, or maybe it’s that no one actually uses that frequency. So, I got a 2 meter radio and antenna. Seems to work pretty good. It’s a little peace of mind if there’s a problem out here so far away from cell reception. It should be good enough to hit the repeater 15 miles away in Cle Elum. I haven’t actually tested range yet.
We haven’t had many opportunities to camp this year. Things are so busy between work and kids and home. We need to get out more. Gotta change our priorities.
The drive up and back down was pretty rough. The road is not deeply rutted but has long sections of washboard. Shook the tarnation out of the camper and truck. The truck fared worse of the two. The cowling around the radiator fan displaced enough to cause a strike. A little fiddling took care of that. One of the bolts holding the side brackets on the rear step fell off. Not a big deal, seems the happen a lot actually. I keep a handful of spare bolts and nuts in the camper it happens so often. The camper shifted in the bed enough the mess with the tension of the tie downs. I must have parked with one of the wheels in a deep hole. The passenger door would not latch properly. I messed and messed with it but could not get it aligned. When I got home it worked perfectly. I’ll have to remember that the frame will flex that far if I’m parked in a hole. Come to think of it, maybe that’s why the fan was striking the cowling. It only presented the next morning when I started the truck to leave.
We probably won’t be able to get out again till the Priest Lake trip. We got out 8 times last year. This was only the third time this year. We will need to work on priorities next year.
