4-3-2021 Kalaloch, Spring Break
Spring break with the boys. Lorena was worried that the campground would be full when we pulled in last night so she had many backup plans. With the way things are going i suppose she has a point. We were supposed to get a fairly early start Friday. I had everything ready to leave by 2:00. She wasn’t able to get off work until 3:00. Traffic was just as bad at 3 as at 5. We made it here just after 7:00. Normally the north side is open and the south end closed. They are doing a bunch of work to the bathrooms and there’s a couple of spots on the bluff that washed out and are probably a safety concern so they opened the south end only. It’s a bit crowded for only being April.
We will spend the week here. Usually we would drive around the peninsula and hit 2 or 3 different campgrounds, but I think we will just take it easy and stay here. It’s cold at night, but sunny and warm during the day.
The truck continues to have nagging issues. This time the throttle is sticking. Usually when it gets hot. It wont return to idle. Stomping on the throttle unstick it most of the time. I’ll have to pull apart the IAC and soak it in carb cleaner. I think I should check for vacuum leaks too.

I’m getting old. Or maybe I’m just fat and out of shape. Walking around is much harder. My hips hurt, my knees hurt. I can’t walk nearly as far as I think i should be able to. Lorena wants to walk down to Beach 2. I have to look that up on the map. Maybe if I load up on Ibuprofen I can make it.
With the north end being closed the sewer dump is closed. I usually have to dump mid-week. We will have to be careful with the black tank usage.

This has been the first real test of the dual battery setup. It’s holding out surprisingly well. I brought the generator along but have only used it to charge the battery on the solar charger. I don’t know why i brought it. There’s never enough sun this time of year for it to be useful. We didn’t make it to Beach 2. We did walk down to the group camp south of the lodge. Rather primitive and a dry camp. Also no ‘official’ access to the beach. There’s a trail marked with no access. We found 2 empty 5 gallon cans that had Chinese or Korean written on them. Sunflower oil. Whatever idiot threw them overboard made sure to stop them up so they’d float real nice. With an entire ocean of ships throwing trash overboard you would think it would occur to someone that the trash ends up on someone’s front yard. We’ve hauled 20 buoys and a 50 gallon trash bag full of garbage off the beach. We could probably haul a full trash bag off the beach every day.
