7-1-2022 Sunset Falls - Yakult
Monday is the 4th of July, no work. I took Friday off as well and we will drive down to see Matt and Misha and the grandkids in Riddle. It’s a long drive and we will split it up with camping the first and last day instead of driving all the way through.
This is a Forest Service campground. Paved road, paved sites, reasonably flat. We got a site right by the river. Someone had left just enough wood in the fire pit to have a small fire for a couple hours. We will stop in Portland to see Keltik and Sean. Should be interesting trying to maneuver this giant truck around the city.
Fuel prices are nuts right now. I though $3 was bad when we bought the truck. It’s $5.50 now. Spent $225 filling it.
7-2-2022 Riddle, Or.
Camping in Matt’s yard. not quite level, mowed lawn, electrical hookup. Would definitely come here again.
Took a walk with Teagan to Main Street. All of 6 blocks to walk there and 4 blocks up and down the street. 2 bars and a liquor store, 2 convenience stores. Lots of run down storefronts. The mill makes a bit of noise, but not an annoyance. Nothing open at 10am except the convenience stores. The girls took the kids and went into Rosenburg to see the farmer’s market. Maybe bring home dinner.
There’s an old Masonic hall behind the post office. Big two story wood building. The white paint is badly peeled, the lawn neglected. Looks to have been built in the late 1800s. I bet that building has stories to tell.

Small, primitive, Forest Service. Well spaced with lots of privacy. Right next to the river. Very pleasant and relaxing. There are tall trees and dense brush, birds singing. Between the trees and being in a narrow valley not a lot of sun gets to the ground. It’s a little cool but I prefer that to sweltering. We foraged enough wood for a fire last night.
